I am just wondering because I work at a gas station; wondering if I should be strict about allowing people to talk on their cell phones around there or not.

No, as a matter of fact, a show called Mythbusters tested this exact claim, you can see re-runs on discovery channel or the science channel regularly. Come to find out I think it was a fire fighter who said most fires at gas pumps tend to be started by static electricity, you should be more worried about people who go back and sit down in there car after starting to pump gas. It also tends to happen more with 16 - 50 yr olds. B/c older drivers and younger passengers tend to ground themselves on the metal of the car before getting out where as younger people have the strength to get out without touching anything on there car.
