There is a lively vehicle manufacturing sector here. Many cars are exported, such as all Hummer H3's are made in SA - even the ones you see on the road in the US. We drive on the left side of the road.
We have busses, taxis, trains, airlines, just like you do.
Our minibus taxis are different though. They have to be seen to be believed!
We have the same kind of jobs you do.
Doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, plumbers, shop assistants, farmers, bakers....
We have big, medium and small businesses, just like you do.
Mining is BIG business here! The world's biggest gold and platinum mines. The Miller Beer company of the US is owned by a South African company. The Johannesburg Stock Exchange is the 10th biggest in the world.
We have the same kind of education as you do.
Kindergarten, schools, colleges, universities, the full range.
We have the same kind of phones as you do.
More cellphones per 1000 population than any other country in the world. You can phone anywhere you like. Our cellphone network is in fact much better developed than any other country of a comparable size. Much better than the US. If you are thinking of bringing your own phone, our system is 3G/GSM in all the cities and large towns and GSM elsewhere. Otherwise you can rent a phone and buy prepaid time at the airport when you arrive.

Perhaps, you should read the link below for details.
Why not just take your phone and buy a sim card they are really cheap or even a starter pack from one of the service providers. I’m sure that would be cheaper than renting, unless your phone is locked…
Ask how much they cost in the SA travel section on here.
I wouldn’t recommend renting one at the airport because criminals have, unfortunately, been known to target people who do that.
