PC screen hardware port problems?

Do you know that port where u plug in your pc sreen(not the power plug,the one that u plug into your PC)? Well that fell back into my computer, leaving a hole where im supposed to plug it in. I tried opening my pc, but i cant(it requires special screwdrivers that i dont have). I dont know what 2 do pls help.

Hi, that sounds very serious, Plug out the power leads immediately, it can cause your PC to 'blow' the main board and/or the PSU.

What make/model of PC have you got?

It is very unusual for a PC to have special security screws, they are designed to be able to allow you to open them to replace various parts, e.g. to put in a new/bigger hard drive or attach a faster graphics card.

If the monitor port has fallen into your PC then the most likely cause is that the graphics card is a type that sits into a slot on the main board (probably an AGP or PCI express slot)
The board can fall out of the slot if the card was not secured properly with a standard screw holding it firmly to the casing.

The likelihood of the port falling away if the type is an on-board graphics chip is less likely as the port is soldered onto the main board and is attached to the case with a couple of screws for strength, but even with those removed the port should NOT fall into the PC.

If the port is really after falling into the PC then it can cause untold damage because the metal of the port can short out tracks on the main board and destroy your PC entirely.

If the PC is under warranty bring it back to the place you bought it and get them to fix it, if not then you need to buy or borrow the proper tools and open the PC (With power off) then you will be able to re-seat the graphics card and tighten up any restraining screws or if its a port on the main-board re-seat it and screw it back to the case.

If you are not confident to do this yourself, then DO NOT attempt to do it, instead get your local computer geek to do it for you or pay a computer repair shop to do it for you, beware some places can fleece you if they see you are naive

One important thing to do if you decide to attempt the repair yourself, make sure that you are 'grounded' (electrically at earth potential) as you work on the PC as they are easily damaged by static electricity.

A simple way to do this is to have the power lead plugged into the PC but have the power switched off, this way the 'earth' wire will provide a 'ground' for you, just touch the metal of the case first to discharge any static from your hands.

You can find a minimum of two slots for using extra memory on your laptop whereas three to four slots will be available on a typical desktop. Upgrades are limited in small or compact computers. When you plan to buy additional memory for your laptop computer, you have to know the maximum memory capacity that can be handled by your laptop. You can find this information with the product manuals. Usually, laptop models having single memory configuration can easily handle the upgrades than the double memory configuration. Therefore you have to know how your laptop is configured.

If you wish to install the additional memory, you need to know some tips. As memory is a delicate part, you should take care while handling it. Ensure that your laptop is powered off from the power source. For accessing the memory modules easily, some laptops have removable panels at the bottom. After locating this panel at the bottom, use a screwdriver to open the panel. The memory modules are seated in the slots and locked with small clips at the strip ends. You can remove the existing memory by pulling the memory modules gently after unlocking the strip clips. Place the new memory module firmly into the slot and clip the module at both ends of the strips. Close the panel of the laptop back in place with a screwdriver. You can power on the laptop to check for its working with the new memory module.
